On September 14, 2024, the East Legon Wembley Plus football field buzzed with excitement as the SOCALOCA Launch and  tournament took place. This inaugural event showcased the vibrant talent of grassroots football in Accra, featuring four male teams and two female teams from lower-tier leagues.

The event was kicked off with an insightful presentation by the SOCALOCA team, covering the SOCALOCA app and Consoles, how to sign up as a user, the various features available, and the benefits for players, coaches, and clubs. The presentation highlighted the app’s role in transforming grassroots football by offering tools for player development, tournament management, and connecting the local football ecosystem with global opportunities. Attendees were walked through a demo of the Academy Console, showcasing how it can streamline football academy operations and enhance player tracking.

Thrilling Matches and Competitive Spirit

The tournament commenced with a fierce battle for third place between Ngorli FC and Changing Lives FC. In a tightly contested match, Changing Lives FC clinched victory with a solitary goal, securing third place with a final score of 1-0, while Ngorli FC settled for fourth.

The women’s final featured an exciting clash between Teshie Constant Ladies FC and Halifax Queens FC. In a high-scoring encounter, Halifax Queens FC emerged victorious, narrowly defeating their opponents 3-2 to claim the championship title.

The highlight of the tournament was undoubtedly the men’s final, where Desert Warriors FC faced off against Mighty Fortress FC. After a gripping 90 minutes that ended in a goalless draw, the match was decided by penalties. Desert Warriors FC triumphed 5-4, showcasing their resilience and determination.

A Vision for Grassroots Football

Mr. George Aforklenyuie, the Greater Accra Division Two League Board Chairman, praised the innovative SOCALOCA App. He emphasised its potential to elevate grassroots players on a global scale by providing essential data and increasing visibility. “The SOCALOCA App will bridge the gap for local players, enhancing their opportunities both locally and internationally,” he
stated.

Mr. Lionel Foy, Co-founder and CEO of SOCALOCA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the app’s role in revolutionising football in Ghana. “SOCALOCA is here to stay. The SOCALOCA Launch event ended with a football kit donation from AFC Wimbledon to three local football clubs in Ghana through SOCALOCA. The presentation was made by the CEO and Co-founder of SOCALOCA, who expressed pride in supporting grassroots football in Ghanaian communities.
